Capitol Puzzle Cache

This multi-stage cache will give you a tour of the monuments placed around the park-like atmosphere of the West Virginia State Capitol Complex. Each statue or monument is a virtual cache element that contains part of the clue to find the final cache. It's a big campus , so you'll do some walking, but clues should take you in somewhat of an order. You can start anywhere, just make sure you write the clue in the correct corresponding Line. The listed coordinates take you to clue no. 1, which is also next to a parking area to begin your journey. So take the tour, learn a little West Virginia History, stop to feed the squirrels and admire the gold dome of the Capitol!

To solve the puzzle and find the final cache, where you can log your success, you will need to visit each virtual cache element to find the answers to the puzzle clues. After you have filled in the Clue Lines, the letters in the Yellow Blocks will translate to a numeric value based on the puzzle key (Some letters will have same value). This value will complete the coordinates for the final cache location, which is a short drive or walk if you wish, where the Capitol dome is still in view.

  1. N 38°20.289 W81°36.856: This pair of memorials only has one latin word between them. Put the word into Line 1 of the puzzle.

  2. N 38°20.283 W81°36.791: We suppose they're all over the age of eighteen, but we're certain this occupation, for Line 2, is a major asset to the state's blue-collar heritage.

  3. N 38°20.155 W81°36.836: When the guy whose name goes into Line 3 was governor, this memorial was erected to commemorate the thirty-two thousand.

  4. N38°20.136 W81°36.755: Perhaps he's sleepwalking, perhaps he's awake all night worrying about making W. Va. a state. Whatever the reason, his last name goes in Line 4 of the puzzle.

  5. N 38°20.128 W81°36.682: We could make you come up with his middle name, which appears nowhere on the statue, but we'll settle for his last for Line 5.

  6. N 38°20.224 W81°36.638: The home fires are burning in the picture on the left-hand panel, but it's the Home ****** that kept the Montani semper liberi. Missing word goes in Line 6.

  7. N 38°20.269 W81°36.745: This inspirational icon's middle name would suit Line 7 of the puzzle to a T.

  8. N 38°20.317 W81°36.774: In Line 8 of the puzzle, put the name of this family, the only family to boast two CMH winners.
