The coordinates provided above represent the parking area at the
North end of Rice Rd. They may also be useful to find your way back
out when you are finished this Geocache.
This Geocache is the GPS Unit that is receiving distance data
from the four Satellite Geocaches in the area
ERTS,
GOES,
SPUTNIK and
TIROS. Which means that when you find one of the Satellite
Geocaches, you should record the distance indicated on the
container. That is the distance that this Geocache is away from
that Geocache.
To find this Geocache you must find at least ONE of the other
four first. However, it is unlikely that it can be found by finding
only one of the Satellites. This is explained below.
- If you find one Satellite Geocache, you will know how far away
this Geocache is located. But you would have to walk in a circle at
the correct distance until you find it. That could take a very long
time.
- If you find two Satellite Geocaches, you will be able to find
this Geocache but there will be two possible solutions, and of
course only one is correct. That could take a long time.
- If you find three Satellite Geocaches, you should be able to
find this Geocache by using triangulation. That could take a bit of
time.
- If you find all four Satellite Geocaches, you will be able to
find this Geocache by using triangulation and having a back-up
check as well.
Having four Satellite Geocaches allows this one to remain active
even if one of the Satellites goes off-line temporarily.
Be advised that if you are planning on finding all five caches
in this series, you should expect hills, bugs and long distance
walking. Sometimes the ATV trail you decide to follow will not take
you to where you think it will. The total time to place these five
caches was 3.5 hours and the walking distance was nearly 7.0
kilometers. But of course, that includes scouting out the locations
as well. Your results may vary.
