Geocache Description:

As of Sept 2013 when I replaced the container, I completely rewrote the description for the cache and added a couple new pictures

Osprey Island is a small piece of land just northwest of the Flaming Gorge Dam. It's an easy swim from the shore by the dam's visitor center where there is a dock. Below the water around the island are many old tree stumps, crags, caves, swim throughs and rock piles to explore. Between three of these boulders, two large (about half a small car in size) and one small (big beach ball), lies the cache container. With the reservoir at 78% it is in 42 feet of water. These are the only boulders around for a radius of about 50 feet. Certainly the container will be silt covered but the boulders should be easy to spot. Just check out the crack/space between the two big ones.

Visibility is usually good. However, when I replaced the cache, it had been raining often for several days before. Visibility was about 5 feet. Make your life easy and wait for the visibility to be good. Don't go soon after rain. When you attempt to move the cache from its silt laden resting spot to open and sign it, it will silt up immediately. Take a good look at everything before you touch the cache. When the weather is good, the current helps it clear pretty quickly.

Please be safe and carry a float. Although the main channel is on the other side of the island, some boats come around this side. Let them know you are there. There are two sets of coordinates. The first are the posted coordinates where GOATTER marked my bubbles. The second are the additional waypoint of N 40° 55.001 W 109° 25.582 where he marked my flag. I recommend surface swimming to the coordinates (Put your GPS in a clear dry bag), drop a weight with the flag line attached, then descend the line to begin your search. Use a radial search pattern with the flag as your center point. The hunt should make for a fun dive. Enjoy! and Good luck!
