Geocache Description:

Moore's Falls Conservation Area

A map of the site can be found at: (visit link)

To get to this cache, there are two options:
Option One: Shorter, misses the possible sogginess of the old trolley tracks.
Start in the NW corner of the St. Fransis Church parking lot. (N 42° 53.280 W 071° 27.535) There is a kiosk for the "Justin Young" trail. This trail crosses the old trolly tracks and leads down to the river landing.

Option Two: Longer, prettier, but soggy along the old trolley tracks if mister beaver has been busy.
Start at the Moore's Falls Conservation Area kiosk located on Route 3A in Litchfield (N42 53.390 W71 27.296).

Follow the trail (former road) west from the kiosk.

The trail will fork (N42 53.446 W71 27.559)and you will take the left fork to follow the trail south. This trail is the 'right of way' of the trolley that used to run from Manchester to Hudson (1907-1931). *Note* due to a recent beaver dam, part of the trolly tracks are pretty wet. I can only suggest you bushwack around that section.

Proceed down the former tracks until a path leads off to the right, down towards the river (N42 53.297 W71 27.658).

Soon you will reach the river. This is the "landing" listed on the map at the kiosk. When you reach the river note the strange "island of rocks". If the river is particularly high, this may just be a line of bushes in the river.

Proceed north on the path along the river until you reach the cache. Note: There are usually two almost parallel paths, one right next to the river, one along the top of the bank. Each seems to fade in and out a bit in spots. If the river is really high, this may be a bit of a bushwack.

There is a note in the cache (on the cover of the log book) that explains the historical significance of the location and of the islands of rocks along the Litchfield site of the river.
