Readington Ramble # 5
It's back! It's back! The bridge is back in action. We had to move
the cache just a bit -- AND it's much easier now. This cache is
located near the South Branch of the Raritan River near a small
falls. This is on the Southern boundary of Readington.
Readington Ramble Series: Readington Township is a
wonderful place to live. We wanted to create a series of caches
that would give you a little tour of the Township and provide you
with a little history as well. We’ll also point out the
existing caches that you can visit while in the area. So to begin,
you should know the basic facts. “July 15, 1730 was the
official birth date of Readington Township. Created by Royal
Charter as Readings, or Readings Town, it wasn't until 1798 that it
became Readington Township. Containing about 48 square miles, ours
is the largest Township in the County of Hunterdon and one of the
largest in the State of New Jersey.” (From Readington
Township History, by Stephanie B. Stevens, Township Historian,
1993)
Other caches included in the Readington Ramble Series:
Hillcrest Hideaway, Hill of the Mill, Way Out of Whitehouse, Old
Dutch Farm, Give my regards to Broad Street, Higginsville Hike,
Summer Fun.
This is a very nice, quiet area (except in trout season) and you
might want to walk along the dirt road a bit and enjoy the scenery.
Although it is not in Readington Township, you may want to visit
the Northlandz model train museum located at the intersection of
River Road and Route 202 (a short way from this cache).
You may want to bring a camera with you. The bridge and falls make
for some good photo-ops.
Note that the difficulty rating is if you use the hint.
Another cache in Readington that is just up stream is: Monkeying
Around by the River.
