A cache near the most leaning tower of the Netherlands. |
Graag alles weer zo terugplaatsen dat het niet opvalt in de omgeving.
Het hangt er een beetje vanaf hoe je het berekent, maar volgens de meesten is de toren van de Walfridus kerk in Bedum de scheefste van Nederland.
In Bedum wordt de toren "schaiftoren" of "schaive toren" genoemd. De bouw startte in het begin van de twaalfde eeuw en hij is nog volledig in tufsteen bewaard gebleven. De toren is 35 meter hoog en staat 261 cm uit het lood.
Een vergelijking van de toren van Bedum met de toren van Pisa ligt voor de hand.
Deze dateert ook uit de twaalfde eeuw maar staat wel ongeveer 450 centimeter uit het lood en was in het jaar 2000 niet meer te bezichtigen. Na corrigerende werkzaamheden staat de toren van Pisa nog 410 cm uit het lood, gemeten aan de bovenkant van de zevende transept.
Relatief gezien staat de toren van Bedum dus meer uit het lood. Reken maar na: De toren van Pisa is nog 56 meter hoog, die van Bedum 35 meter: 56/35 x 261 cm = 418 cm. Conclusie: De toren van Bedum zou net zo beroemd kunnen worden als de toren van Pisa, niet alleen om deze afwijking maar ook vanwege de oorsprongsgeschiedenis als bedevaartplaats die verbonden is met de heilige Walfridus en zijn zoon Radfridus! |
It depends how the calculation is done, but according to most people the tower of the Walfridus church in Bedum is the most leaning one of the Netherlands.
It was built in the 12th century and is still completely conserved in tuff. The tower is 35 meters high and the top is 261 cm from where it would be if it were perfectly vertical.
This compares well with the famous tower of Pisa.
This one is also from the 12th century and was leaning 450 cm. In 2000 it could not be visited anymore and correcting work was performed, after which is was still leaning 410 cm.
Relatively, the tower of Bedum is more leaning, if the height is considered. The tower of Pisa is 56 meters high and the one of Bedum is 35 meters high. 56/35 x 261 cm = 418 cm. Conclusion: The tower of Bedum could become as famous as the one of Pisa, not only because of this fact, but also because of its history as place for pilgrimage related to Saint Walfridus and his son Radfridus. |
| Achter de kerk is op de grond aangegeven hoe groot de kerk vroeger was. Hier staat nu een kunstwerk. Het ontwerp van Gert Sennema met als titel 'Ora et Labora' is een tafel met daarover een kleed gedrapeerd. Aan het hoofdeinde van de tafel ligt een boek open geslagen. Aan het voeteneind rust een spade tegen de tafelrand. Het geheel is geplaatst op een tapijt van rode baksteen, dat sterk contrasteert met bovengenoemde vormen die in groen gepatineerd brons worden uitgevoerd. |
Behind the church the original size of the church is marked on the ground. Here a work of art is placed, as well. It was designed by Gert Sennema and is titled "Ora et Labora". It is a table over which a cloth is draped. An opened book is laying at one end of the table. A spade is resting against the table at the other end. The table is placed on a carpet of red bricks, which is contrasting strongly with the table, which is implemented in bronze with a green patina. |
