Geocache Description:

This CITO will take place from 9AM until roughly 11AM on Saturday, November 16th, at the Neal Smith NWR. Depending on the weather there are different activities we can do to assist in tallgrass prairie restoration:
Nice weather: we will be outside collecting seeds and cutting brush.
Not so nice weather: we will be inside cleaning and sorting seeds.
The coordiates for this CITO bring you to the refuge's Visitor Center.

The Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge will provide all the tools, equipment, and information/education that we need. All we need to do is show up to work.

There is water and coffee available in the Visitor's Center. I will be bringing doughnuts.

Helping to collect or clean seeds will aid in the refuge's work to restore tallgrass prairie habitat.

When you log that you will attend: Please let me know the number of people you will be bringing so I may update the refuge so they can prepare to have adequate tools and supplies available to us.

A note to those who have not volunteered at Neal Smith NWR before: each volunteer will need to fill out a Volunteer Services Agreement. You can do this at the refuge, or ahead of time - either is fine with the refuge staff. The form is available on their website at http://www.fws.gov/refuge/Neal_Smith/what_we_do/get_involved/volunteer_applications.html. Scroll down to "Volunteer Service Agreement", and click it to download. There are links to examples on how to fill it out. Print the completed form, sign it and bring it with you.

A big thanks to Megan Wandag, the Visitor Services Specialist, for welcoming us to the refuge to volunteer.

A note to avid geocache hiders:
According to the US Fish & Wildlife Service website physical caches are not to be placed on wildlife refuge lands without permission authorized by the refuge manager.
