Northern Virginia Breakfast Gathering Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

bigcall: The event was great, thinking of doing another one in November near Manassas? See the Northeast region in the Forums for more details.

Cache is being removed since it's been about a month since it was held. If anyone would like to log it still, let me know.

Geocache Description:

Thought it would be fun to get together with some of the area (and beyond) geocachers. Looks like it's been about a year since the last event (before my time) in this neck of the woods and the number of people geocaching has grown quite a bit.

UPDATED 9/6 Changed coordinates slightly (the old ones will get you to the parking lot fine also). Added references to to-be-placed caches. Confirmed time and rough numbers with Management. SEE YOU THERE!!!

Since a previous NoVa event had been held at the Old Country Buffet in Fairfax (see here), I figured why mess with success?

Here's an opportunity to meet up with a bunch of fellow geocachers (and benchmark hunters) for a casual breakfast, trade some stories, tips and other adventures and of course go find a cache or benchmark or two.

Started discussing this in the forums a few days ago and there seemed to be enough initial interest to get the ball rolling, so here we are at the next step. If you have any comments, thoughts, ideas and suggestions please feel free to chime in on this ongoing discussion.

Initial thought is to put together a list of who is attending and how many by posting notes to this page. We can then give the Old Country Buffet a head count (for those eating the cost is about $7) and block off the required number of tables. Start time is 9:00am or so, but I'm sure we'll be there a little early and stay for a couple of hours. Following breakfast we can do some nearby cache and/or benchmark hunting!

Since there is a trail that runs through the Mantua area fairly close by which already has a geocache on it (Goblin's TD: Practice, Practice, Practice) thought this might be a good trail to put a few more caches on to find for the day. This trail basically runs from Rt 50 to Lake Accotink and is pretty friendly but it may be busy. This is just one idea, others are certainly welcome.

ADDED: I will be placing 4 caches along the Accotink trail by Sep 13th in preparation for the event. Keep an eye out for NOVA 1, 2, 3, and 4 shortly. They will be a progressive (i.e., meant to be done in order) walk along this paved trail and those who find all 4 will have the coordinates to a 5th! Since the round trip distance is over 4 miles it may be able to pre-stage a car or set up a shuttle back to the origin. Two potential parking areas are N38 51.273 W077 14.755 and N38 51.173 W077 14.376

Anyone else wishing to add a cache is welcome to do so as well.

The point is to have some fun and get to know a few new folks.

Look forward to meeting everyone. Again please post a note indicating if you think you may attend and how many people will be there. See you on the 14th of September!
