The largest crater lake in Europe 52

 The largest crater lake in Europe is on the Kurejoki, cache 52. There are cottage settlements on the downhill slope, but you can enjoy a view of Lappajärvi from the bridge. Often there are people with fishing rods up in the sky.

 At the Kurejoki River, the logs were gathered into big rafts and towed across Lappajärvi with a pontoon. At first 15-20 men were needed to rotate the pontoon reel, then in the 20th century horsepower was introduced and finally in the 30s the engine did its job as tugboats towed logs across the back of the lake. Stray logs were still look after by men.

 According to local tradition, the Kurejoki was called Kurenjoki or the Kurjenjoki. Up to now, there have been remnants of storage at the Anttila, which is said to have belonged to Matti Kurje, the famous Pirkkala superior.

 Euroopan suurin kraatterijärvi ympäri-kierroksella olemme Kurejoella, kätköllä 52. Laskusuun kohdilla on mökkiasutusta, mutta sillalta voi katsella avautuvaa näkymää Lappajärvelle. Paikalla näkee usein immeisiä onkivavat tanassa ja virvelin heittäjiä.

 Kurejoen suulla ennen vanhaan tukit koottiin isoiksi lautoiksi ja hinattiin Lappajärven halki ponttoonilla. Ensin ponttoonin kelakangen pyöritykseen tarvittiin 15-20 miestä, sitten otettiin 20-luvulla käyttöön hevosvoima ja lopulta 30-luvulla moottori teki työn, kun pukserit hinasivat tukit yli järven selän. Karkutukkeja etsittiin yhä miesvoimin.

 Kurejokea on kutsuttu paikallisen perimätiedon mukaan Kurenjoeksi tai Kurjenjoeksi. Joen Rannassa Anttilan kohdalla on näihin saakka ollut varastoaittojen jäännöksiä, joiden sanotaan kuuluneen Matti Kurjelle, kuuluisalle pirkkalaispäällikölle.
