This hide is at the former fire lookout site on Crockett Knob, 4800', in the Malheur National Forest.
Crockett Knob was home to a ground-mounted L-4 cabin from 1934 to 1971. Little remains at the site today except some pieces of cement. There are 2 reference markers dating from 1938 that point to where the center of the lookout was.
Views include Indian Rock Lookout to the north, Dixie Butte Lookout to the southeast, the Middle Fork John Day River drainage to the south, and on a clear day, Madison Butte Lookout to the west-northwest.
Seeking this cache requires a 1/2 mile hike up the old jeep road to the summit, with about 200' elevation gain.
You're looking for a camo-painted snapware container which is on the smaller side of the regular sized category.
