Geocache Description:

The Eramosa River drains the easternmost portion of the upper Grand River watershed. It begins about 5 km west of Erin and runs south to join the Speed River in Guelph. The fourth bridge up river from the junction of the Eramosa with the Speed River was just completed in 2005 and carries Stone Road. The fifth bridge is the former Stone Road bridge. It is a one lane bow bridge that has been retained as a pedestrian bridge because of its historical interest. It has been designated under the Ontario Heritage Act since it is an early example (1916) of a concrete bow string truss bridge.

The cache is hidden near this bridge. It is only about 150 metres from the parking area. It's just a hop, skip and a jump. You simply hop out of your car, skip across the bridge, jump over a small stream, and you are there. Since the small stream is likely to be a large stream during the spring runoff or after a heavy rain, this cache will be much more difficult under wet conditions and might best be postponed until dry weather returns. The cache is a small camouflaged plastic container containing a variety of small trade items as well as a log book.

Hint: When the area around the cache is wet, taking a semicircular route from the main trail to the cache is much less likely to result in wet feet than the most direct route.

Closest parking is off Stone Road at: N 43° 32.775 W 080° 11.875 in front of the Barber Scout camp.

Spring Advisory: This cache is in a low area close to the Eramosa River. When the river is in flood in the spring it can be hazardous. Please use extra caution! If spring flooding is particularly extensive, the area around the cache may be flooded and this cache may be unavailable. In any case, the area around the cache is apt to be muddy until the ground is completely thawed out and dries up a bit.
