Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Madison Horton Lewis Woodlands. The woodlands are on a portion of what was previously known as "Belair", the grounds of the estate of Thomas P. Fowler, the president of the New York, Ontario & Western Railroad. Still visible are remnants of the vast formal gardens and a stone well. The land was first donated for preservation by Mary Hope Lewis and Joan Lewis Jewett, and is now property of the Village of Warwick.

The Lewis Woodlands Trail is an easy to follow loop for walking which begins and ends at the coordinates for the parking provided below. Follow Rt94/17A into the Village of Warwick and turn on to Robin Brae Drive which comes to a dead end at the trailhead. There is enough parking for a few cars. DO NOT USE the 'driving directions' tool above. It will not bring you to a point where you can access this trail.

This quiet path is not very well known, but popular with some of the locals who have small children. It is a trail through the woods but the walk is not very long or difficult at all. Give yourself about 30-45 minutes to walk the entire loop at a slow enjoyable pace. The trail crosses a small wooden bridge then splits where the loop begins. It is marked with yellow markers, but the path is easy to follow without any help. (Snowcover will make the path more difficult stay on.)

Lewis Woodland is only open from 9AM until dusk.

Although I'm sure hunting is illegal within the village limits, I did see a deer stand in one of the nearby trees, so wear something bright during hunting season. Stay alert for any possible bees nests in the ground nearby.

The cache was moved from its original location on 8/19/08 because the first location was close to a bees nest in the ground which a fellow geocaching family found the hard way.

Cache is an ammo can.
