Background story behind the ACE Series geocaches. This cache is #8 of a series I am working on. As a new geocacher, I had been scouting locations to place some caches. During a conversation with a friend of mine (DH), where I was explaining the activity of geocaching and asking for permission to place caches on some of his property lines, I realized I was describing an activity and asking permission to conduct that activity on his lands, when it was an activity he could not participate in very well. You see, my friend is in a wheel chair and although he gets around very well, everywhere he needs to, stopping the van on a roadside and crossing a ditch, or hiking into the timber to look for a cache is not very possible for him. So I gained the inspiration right then, to place a series of geocaches in the Jackson County, Iowa area that were as challenging and enjoyable as any other geocache but are specifically designed to accommodate a wheelchair and ramp-van access. With as much inspiration as I had, I discovered I had as many roadblocks. Thankfully, iowaPete from IGO was hosting a “How to place a cache” event. I relayed my story and asked for suggestions from the group, who were all much more experienced cachers, and received an overwhelming number of great ideas and support. So here it begins, the purpose of this cache and those to follow is to create caches that are fun, and challenging, and accessible to everyone. Wish me luck, and send me any comments or suggestions you might have.

As always, be safe, be courteous, be respectful and have fun.

Please remember that all caches in the Jackson County Conservation Areas are CITO locations.
