Geocache Description:

This cache is placed as part of the New York State Park Saratoga/Capital District Region Geocache Challenge. The From “old Forrests” to “Fruit Trees” cache is located on the grounds of Johnson Hall State Historic Site, which was the home to the 18th century estate of Sir William Johnson and operates as an historic house museum.

This cache is placed as part of the New York State Park Saratoga/Capital District Region Geocache Challenge. There are 44 geocaches hidden within 11 state parks and state historic sites in the Saratoga/Capital District region, and geocachers finding them all will be eligible to enter their names in a drawing for valuable prizes. If you are interested in taking up the challenge, you can pick up a geocache passport at any of the participating parks and sites, or download the passport at www.nysparks.com.

This cache contains a unique stamp which must stay with the cache. Use this stamp to stamp your passport. This stamp is NOT a trade item.

The From “old Forrests” to “Fruit Trees” cache is located on the grounds of Johnson Hall State Historic Site, which was the home to the 18th century estate of Sir William Johnson and operates as an historic house museum. Your search for the cache can begin anywhere on the grounds of the historic site. The grounds are open from dawn until dusk. Please do not access the area after hours, and please park in the designated parking area only. If you are geocaching as part of the regionwide challenge and need the location of the “secret” cache or want to obtain prizes, you will ONLY be able to do so during the historic house’s open hours, which are as follows.

May 16th – October 14th 2012
Wednesday – Saturday – 10:00AM – 5:00PM
Sunday – 1:00AM – 5:00PM

You may find the caches at any time the site grounds are open. However, staff will be able to provide you with coordinates to the secret caches, or the site prize only during these hours.

Your search will take you through the historic grounds, which included multiple outbuildings, an Indian trade house, blacksmith shop, orchards, and decorative gardens in the 18th century. Johnson Hall State Historic Site provides tours of the historic house during the summer season. We highly recommend that you take the tour, and learn more about Sir William Johnson, his family, and the property. You will not only leave with some prizes from our geocaches and get further to completing the challenge, but you will also gain with a deeper understanding of the history of the area. We hope you enjoy!

The items in the cache that relate to the park are souvenirs that do not need to be replaced with a trade item. Please do not remove the laminated, descriptive sheets from the cache.
