Cache is near a public boat launching ramp on the Shenandoah River.
Parking is right at the boat ramp under a bridge. Shouldn't be too
hard to find, though the area gets a little sloppy after a rain.
The cache is a large lock-n-lock ammo box.
Castleman's Ferry was the original way to cross the Shenandoah
River when travelling from Winchester in the Shenandoah Valley to
Washington, D.C. Now the bridge on Route 7 is the preferred method.
Also nearby was the Battle of Cool Spring in 1864 when Union
troops, retreating from the Berryville side of the river attempted
to ford the river. Unfortunately they didn't use the same ford that
had brought them across the river in the first place and many of
them drowned in the deeper water.
The cache, the first we've placed, contains a notebook, pen and
pencil, several small trinkets such as a toy soldier and toy cars.
We've also started the MIG-29 travel bug there.
