Geocache Description:

The Pineywoods Cache Collection

An East Texas Tour Through Caching

The members of the The Pineywoods Cache Connection are happy to bring you The Pineywoods Cache Collection. We've hidden 15 treasures across East Texas for your caching pleasure! Be prepared to see some great back roads, beautiful trails, and of course, a pine tree or two! Visit Pineywoods Cache Collection Bonus Cache for links to all the caches in this series. We welcome you to East Texas, and wish you happy caching!

For those of you who have never attempted this style of multi-stage caching it can appear difficult at first sight.  Don't worry, it's a whole lot easier than it seems, but there is a little driving involved.

Stage 1

The above coods will take you to the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.  When you arrive at the location, you will find yourself surrounded by seven historical markers.  There will be three markers facing you, two markers next to the big building just to the south of you and two markers at the entrance of the big building to the north of you.

Within these historical markers you should find the answer to the following question and write it down to be used later:

What year did Thomas Jefferson Rusk retire from
his position as Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court?

Stage 2

The second stage is located approx. 2.42 miles from the first stage at a magnetic compass bearing of 344°.  When you arrive at the location, you should look for a small structure with no walls.  Use your GPS to find the coords for this structure, and you are ready to move on to the final stage.

Stage 3

The final stage is located .XX miles from the structure at stage two at a magnetic compass bearing of 353°.  Replace the XX with the last two digits of the year you wrote down at stage one.

You will find the cache hidden at the southern end of a white fence behind an old fence post with barbed wire.

This is the location of a great place to learn about 19th century east Texas.  To get the best experience from this cache, I would suggest planning your day so that you arrive here well within their business hours, and take the time to look around.

Monday - Saturday, 9:00am to 4:00pm
Sunday, 1:00pm to 4:00pm

Please, if you hunt for this cache outside of these business hours, stay outside the fence and do not enter the property.  You do not need to go inside the fence to find the cache.
