The find the coordinates for this you will
need to:
- Visit Teviot Walkways "Grover's
Hill" Cache and read the numbers off the Roxburgh Golf Club Score
Card hidden there or,
- Play a round of golf and use the card you use for that round
or,
- Take the easy way out and have a look at the image of the card
included on the Cache Page or,
- Do all of the above.
The Coordinates are:
S 45° A
E 169° B
You will find A by finding the length,
in metres, of hole #11, "Molyneaux",
multiplying that number by 98 adding
95 and then dividing that result by
1000
You will find B by finding the length,
in metres, of hole #17, "Endeavour",
multiplying that number by 65 subtracting
8 and then dividing that result by
1000
Continue on the track from the cache site, Teviot Walkways "Grover's Hill", to a waypoint on
the track heading back North, at:
S45° 32.984
E169° 19.246
This waypoint is amongst the trees so that the GPSr readings
might not be spot on, however, you will find a well defined track
branching off to the left and heading in a generally Southerly
direction. Continue on until you pass under some power lines and
head to the tree line' turn right to follow that tree line down to
a fence, keeping the trees on your left and the power lines on your
right. At the fence turn left and follow it and you will soon find
yourself at the correct coordinates. Do not climb over the
fence.
You could, of course, bush (broom) bash from further back on the
track if you wanted to take a short(?) cut.
All of the above assumes that you are heading around the track in a
clockwise direction from the "Teviot Walkways
"Grover's Hill" cache site."
From the cache site you cannot see #11 Tee which is only 150m
away but you are well protected from badly hit tee shots by a small
rise and some big trees between you and that tee.If, however, you
venture closer to that tee I suggest that you watch out but in 30
years of playing golf (mostly badly) on that course I have never
seen a ball hit that far off line. But watch out anyway.
NOTE the cache site is not on the golf course but on the
Grover's Hill public reserve and from the site you get a very good
view looking down #11 fairway to where it intersects with #17
fairway.
The container is an 850ml black Sistema Lunch Box with a
"Yu-Gi-Oh!" lid. It is concealed at ground level.
When hidden it contained:
- Log Book, Pencil and Sharpener
- Stach Note.
- Box of coloured paper clips.
- George V Penny 1918
