This cache is part of 'The 13 Days of Christmas' series.
This cache is located along the Wildwood Trail along with several other clever hides hidden by Da Bloodhound, DOC., Zuma!, Boris Badenov and Spike007. If you have time bring your bike and find them all.
The Wildwood Trail is a recreational trail that follows an old branch rail line once owned by the St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railway Company. The line once connected the main east-west rail line north of Woodville to the town of Spring Valley to the south. Abandoned due to the decreased need for local rail service the line was eventually purchased by St. Croix County for recreational purposes. St. Croix County chose to develop the right-of-way as a packed limestone path from the town of Woodville south to the St. Croix/Pierce County line. Currently that portion of the trail may be used for horseback riding, hiking and biking in the summer with snowmobiling and hiking on the trail as winter activities.
Pierce County, to the south, chose not to acquire the trail right-of-way allowing several nearby land owners to purchase sections of the old rail line. Local snowmobile clubs currently maintain a trail there for their benefit through private agreements with the land owners. Horseback riding, biking and hiking are not normally allowed on these sections.
Special permission for geocachers has been granted on the one mile section of trail from the St. Croix/Pierce County line to the south to the property line of the Schmitt Timber Company. Mr. Jeff Schmitt, the co-owner has agreed to allow caches and cacher access if we agree to access the trail only from the north (parking co-ordinates below) Also, any cacher accessing the private property holds the owner without fault for any injury he/she may sustain while on the property. Lastly geocachers using the trail should do so only if the snowmobile trail is listed as closed by Pierce County. This may information may be obtained 24/7 by calling 715-639-6311.
