Take Route 61 to Port Clinton. Across from the Peanut Shop, follow the road marked "No Outlet". Park at N 40 34.977 W 076 01.350. Cross the wooden bridge to find the trail head.

A friend of mine, who is a native of the area as well as the local fire chief, introduced us to this beautiful trail which he had enjoyed as a youth. The trail meanders along side the Rattling Run Creek, a tributary to the Schuylkill River. Normally it is an easy hike, but recent ice storms have produced a lot of fallen trees which, at certain points, make the going a little more difficult. The path is slightly uphill and wide at most spots. There is a dense canopy of trees over the majority of the trail, which provides cool comfort in the summer. In the wet seasons you will pass a small waterfall and will find that there are numerous streams over which you must rock hop...always a favorite with kids! The cache is located a little over a mile up the trail. It should take you about 45 minutes to reach it. About a third of the way in, you can see the old reservoir to your right. In the center section, the trail and creek run in a deep ravine, and your GPS device may loose contact with the satellites. The original contents of the cache: log book and pencil
disposable camera (to be used and left)
2 small carabiners
playing cards
harmonica
tape measure
flashlight key ring
matchbox car
calculator
silly putty Edited July 13, 2003 Returned to the cache for the first time in order to retrieve the camera and develop the film. I left a new one in its place and added some goodies to the cache. The trail has now been cleared and is easier to walk. There is dense shade along 99% of the trail offering welcome relief from the hot summer sun.
