There are two motives behind this cache. The first one is
simple. My family and I love the coast and there just aren't enough
caches out there. Hopefully this will be something to help get
people out to visit the coast more often. This location marks a
great local surf spot and four different establishments have
occupied what should be a prime location on Montara State Beach in
the last ninety years: the Gallagher Montara Beach Hotel, Frank
Torres' Beach Hotel, the Chart House and now the current
establishment. There is one more motive..
With the recent craze of collecting geocoins, I was recently
talking with fellow geocachers about how disappointing it was that
you had to go to an event to view geocoins in people's binders
rather than finding them in caches. The discussion went on with
ways to make sure people traded in such a way that there would
always be something "good" there. This idea goes one step further
and is my best attempt to insure there will always be coins in a
geocache.
This can be a fairly busy area depending on weather and time of
day (it's very busy at sunset) so be aware of your
surroundings when retrieving/replacing. You are looking for a
fairly large ammo box. When you find it, feel free to write down
the tracking numbers of the coins provided with the cache for
logging purposes or take a set of tokens (one of each color) with
the tracking numbers on them. Please take only one set of tokens
per team and notify me when supplies start running low. Now U can I
con too!
If you don't know about geocoins, they are coins that
used to be left in caches that you could track from cache to
cache. Unfortunately, these days, most people keep them for their
personal collection so they are hard to find in the wild. To get
the icons in your "trackables" tab in your stats, either write down
the tracking numbers shown on the coins, or take a set of poker
chips. Then track them like travel bugs (click "Track travel bugs"
on the left navigation bar of the GC website). Each tracking number
is unique for each coin. Once you have "picked up" each coin, post
a note, and you can drop them back off.
Special thanks to Kusanagi for helping out on various stages of
this.
