Rio Rancho has a serious lack of caches in the populated portion of the city. The Balance cache series is being placed to fix that. This series is named 'Balance' for a few reasons:
Ø Find the first Balance cache.
Ø We're placing caches that blend in or are balanced with the environment.
Ø We want to balance the number of urban and rural caches in the area.
To find the cache, find these 4 locations:
1. The coordinates at the top of this page will lead you to 2 signs. The sign on top has a year listed on it. The 4th digit is 'A'.
2. From there, proceed to N35 13.405 W106 39.706 where you will find a memorial marker. There are 2 years on the marker. The last digit from the first year listed is B. There are several signs near this location. Spend a few minutes here to learn about the wetlands and the Rio Rancho watershed.
3. Once you are done, find 2 signs at N35 13.405 W106 39.749. One of the signs has 2 large numbers on it. Add the numbers together to find C.
4. Continue on the path past the gazebo-type structure to N35 13.374 W106 39.729. Between the sidewalk and the rock wall are some large rocks. Count them to find 'D'.
You now have enough information to find the cache at N35 13.DCC W106 39.CAB
There is a log sheet inside the container and room for small trinkets. Bring your own pen or pencil. Please be discreet when searching for and replacing the cache. This park can get crowded on weekends and mid-day in the summer months. The pool is refreshing on hot days and is open from about Memorial Day through Labor Day. Dogs are not allowed in Haynes Park.
Added 5/9/03: 2 screws hold the lid on the container. It should be possible to open it and close it without tools. If not, a car key could be used to start turning them as I drilled one of the holes to make it easier. Please close it finger-tight.
Added 5/27/03: The cache has been moved to a new location. There should be no trouble with the sprinklers in the new spot.
