31 ARM SAGURARO

Located in the Bulldog Canyon, Off Highway Area of the Tonto National Forest, is a spectacular 31 arm Saguraro Cactus. Its rare to see a big Saguraro like this so close to a population area (Mesa). Bush Highway will get you the closest to this cache. Either park along the highway or go in the "North" gate, N33 33.055 W 111 34.893. There is a combination lock on this gate. To get the combination you must obtain a permit from the Forest Service located at 5140 Ingram St. in Mesa (Southwest corner of Higley & McKellips). Driving in on the forest road will save you approx 1/2 mile hiking each way. This is an off road desert hike so wear tough shoes and beware of sticky things. The container is a rectangular cookie tin 6x8x2.

We pass to the west of this one on the way out to GC57Geocache for our #500. So this was will be #501 for us. The cookie tin is now a tupperware canister. John did fine a pack RAT under it and could see some teeth marks on the top lid. He made sure the RAT ran away before he put it back. TFTC SL/TN/LN
