Geocache Description:

NOTE: The above coordinates are for parking.

A pleasant walk or ride through the Marckworth State Forest to a cache specially placed for finders of a version 2 Moun10Bike Geocoin.

Cascades View from the Marckworth State Forest

This cache is located in the Marckworth State Forest, a beautiful piece of property east of Duvall that is managed by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources. It is very rare that you run into other people out here, especially once off of the main trunk roads. It is an area popular with mountain bikers, equestrians and hikers. Motorized vehicles are not permitted on most of the roads and, unless you happen by an active logging operation, you will likely experience only peace and quiet here.

From the parking coordinates posted above, the route to the cache takes you on a nice walk or bike ride through the forest that is about two miles in length one-way. There is some elevation gain along the way, but nothing too significant (about 500 feet total gain) and it is all along well-graded forest roads. The spot in which I have placed the cache offers one of the better views anywhere in the Marckworth Forest. On a clear day, you can enjoy scenes of the Cascades, Mt. Rainier and the Olympics.

Now, on to the cache coordinates. If you have found one of my version 2 Moun10Bike Geocoins, then you may have noticed a code imprinted on the coin. It is not the three-digit coin number, but instead a 10-digit alphanumeric code incorporated into the reverse face. It is this code that is used to determine the coordinates for this cache.

To arrive at the cache coordinates, simply assign a letter to each digit of the code. For any digit in the code that is a letter, convert the letter to its numeric equivalent (i.e. A=1, B=2, C=3, etc.):

A B C D E F G H I J

The coordinates of the cache are:

N 47° H J.(D+B) I F'
W 121° (C-B) (A+F).G E C'

The container is a tall, olive drab .50-cal. ammo can with "GEOCACHE" stenciled in yellow on multiple sides and with an "Official Geocache" sticker affixed. When rehiding the cache, please be sure to conceal it well so as to avoid accidental discovery by hunters and loggers.

Have fun!
