Örvényes, with just 170 inhabitants, is one of the smallest settlements on the north shore of the lake Balaton. You will find here the famous watermill which is still in working condition.
There are only two more similar watermills in Hungary, those in Nagybörzsöny and Túristvándi. A predecessor of the mill was already in the registers in the year 1211.
It is a highly interesting monument of industrial history, which is visited by thousands of individual tourists and groups every year. The overshot wheel is made from wood and is turned by water from the Pécsely stream. The mill had been rebuilt several times during the past centuries and it acquired its present form during the 18th century. It has become a tourist attraction. It can be visited from the beginning of May until the end of September, from 9.00-16.00, with the exception of Monday.

Örvényes egyik fő látnivalója a ma is működő vízimalom, a Pécsely-patak partján található. Értékes ipartörténeti emlék. Ez hazánk legősibb, a XI. századból származó vízimalma, mely máig működőképes. 1211-ben a tihanyi apátság birtokainak összeírásakor már prosperáló malomként említik. Megalapításától kezdve folyamatosan üzemel, ez idő alatt többször átépítették, utoljára a XVIII. században.
Az vízimalom forgatási helyszínként is szolgált: a Lőcsén is játszódó Fekete város című magyar film egy jelenetét itt, a malomkerekek előtt vették fel.
Nyitva tartás: május 1. - szeptember 30., kedd - vasárnap: 9h - 16h Október 1-jétől április 30-ig zárva van, csak előzetes időpont-egyeztetéssel látogatható.
