WHITNEY POCKETS
To claim this virtual cache you will
need to make your way to Whitney Pockets, southeast of Mesquite,
Nevada.
Whitney Pockets is a very interesting
rock formation along New Gold Butte Road a few miles west of the
Nevada - Arizona stateline.
Once you get to the area, the coordinates
will lead you to a small dam. You will need to find the metal rod
shown in the below picture. On the back of the rod is a stamped
symbol, letter or number. Using the geocache e-mail link, e-mail me
and tell me what is stamped on the rod.
You will have to climb steps to the top
of the dam and steps down the back of the dam.

You can see this rod as you stand on top of the
dam.

February 20 by PhantomWSO (5390 found) I made it down the back side of the dam by inhaling and squeezing, only to find a pool of water at the bottom. I splashed through the water to get to the back and check the iron rod.
[view this log] | February 12 by schmulligan (27 found) First find today. Had to wade through some calf deep water on the far side of the dam to reach the cache. Had difficulty reading the stamp on the rod due to the sun angle (and my eyes). Was a letter R and then a circle with something else inscribed within. Was at this spot last year not knowing it was a cache. Someone was actully camping on the small ledge infront.
[view this log] | February 11 by davel54 (4 found) Knew there was a cache here but didn't have notes so didn't know to climb down the back side. Great area.
[view this log] | February 3 by vprince (176 found) Interesting site. I wonder if the builders modeled it after Hoover Dam. Tthey built it almost as strong! Perhaps we could dub it "Little Hoover".
[view this log] | January 10 by reddirt4x4 (738 found) We've been here before, but didn't realize there was a virtual to be had. The CCC camps built the dam in the 1930's along with roads and other projects. TFTC Enjoyed the trip out with the ICL group from Dixie.
