Geocache Description:

Microcache in the park.

Zala is a small village in the deep of county Somogy. There wouldn’t be any intresting in it, if Mihály Zichy wasn’t born here in 1827. This case is of his memory. We put the case under a stamp at the back exit of a nice but little bit neglected park, which is opposite the museum. (Park entry: N46°44,360 E18°0,112). I suggest you to look for the case walking across the park, but at the worst it can be approached from outside, too. (From hier: N46°44,414 E18°0,403). You don’t have to go in the opening hours but you can get fullier and more authentic picture if you also go to the museum. It’s open from 10 to 16, except on Mondays (from 10 to 18 in summer), the entrance fee is 300 HUF. Zala is a typical settlement in the valley of Koppány. The village was made famous by the famous painter of the 19th century, Mihály Zichy and the museum and the park which named after him. The museum watches a considerable collection, which was established by the grandchild of the painter and her husband, it was opened on the centenary of the painter in 1927. In the museum we can gain accsess to his painting, we can find documents of his life, his valuable library and his furniture transported from the east. Mihály Zichy spent most of his life in Saint Petersburg but he was recognised in Paris, too. A 12-hectare-park belongs to the family castle, it is a nature reserve today.
