Geocache Description:

A P & G. BYOP!

The Hermantown locker plant was opened in October of 1945. Locker plants were the best way for homesteaders to store meat and produce without it spoiling because people didn’t have freezers in their homes. There were different facilities on site for things such as quick freezing, slaughtering, and the wrapping and cutting of meats. The Duluth rabbi even came in for kosher slaughtering once in a while. The locker plant was open until 1965 when it was purchased and remodeled by the Hermantown schools to be used for the Hermantown school district administration offices. This is Cache #5 on Kaylee's fabulous geocaching voyage that is part of her Girl Scout Silver Award Project.
