Growing up in nearby Humboldt, approx 13 miles to the north on Hwy 75, Hallock was considered by a lot of outsiders as a "snobby" town. Now that I call Hallock home I can honestly say there are a lot of nice people here. It is a great place to raise kids and enjoy a peaceful, slower Pace.
For a bit of history....Hallock was not named after an influential farmer or businessman who had come to the city to settle. It was named after Charles Hallock, a man from New York City who had come to this area to hunt.
In 1873 Charles founded the sportsmen magazine " Forest and Stream" which was later incorporated into its competitor Field and Stream. This is also when he first came to what is now the city of Hallock. He came here looking for a sportsmen's paradise. Charles was a pioneer in opening up frontier northern Minnesota from Lake Superior to the North Dakota border as a place to hunt and live. Charles Hallock, writer, explorer, Hunter, naturalist and businessman died in 1919 in New York.
