Just on the edge of every small town is the "city dump". It really was more of a primitive recreational space -- kids used to sight in their BB guns here or search for treasures. What makes this site unique is that it now a trail head for snowmobilers, ATV, and soon a bike trail. Still a recreational spot, just a little different.
