Geocache Description:

*** NOT AT POSTED COORDINATES ***

Careful of the nearby construction!

Visionary Herbert Carleton wrote the following over 100 years ago regarding St. Louis Park:

All the streets of our village have official names.  Some streets have several such names legally adopted.  There are three Main streets and three Summit avenues, each in a separate part of the village and having [no] future possibility of ever merging.

We who live here may not need street names to describe our homes.  But more and more our friends and business acquaintances need them to find us.  A correct street name may prove very misleading to a stranger who consults an official plat.

I would like to suggest that our Village Council provide street signs wherever petitioners are willing to put up the cost.  In this way a large number of signs of a uniform style would mark many important streets.  But along with this should come an ordinance providing that but one name should appear on any one street and that no new streets should hereafter be laid out with names duplicating names of streets already platted in our village.

The Village Council took his advice – 18 years later.  Were I to go back in time and tour St. Louis Park, perhaps I'd start on Harriet Place, then travel to Marlon.  After a brief rest, I'd continue on to Pomona, Town Road, and Toledo. Next I'd skip over to Park Manor Boulevard,  Grimes, then Princeton and Sydney.  I'd have to check out Vera Cruz, Falvey, and Rossy.  Then on to Arcadia, and finally to Chester.
