The city of Dayton, platted in 1855, is named for city founder, Lyman Dayton. Through his energy and finances, Lyman Dayton was instrumental in bringing the railroad into Minnesota. Lyman was a real historic figure to the City of Saint Paul, Minnesota. His was from Connecticut and he was born of wealth. Lyman arrived in Minnesota in 1849 where he became a railroad and land speculator of some fame. He owned the land that became Dayton's Bluff in the East Side of the city of Saint Paul. He also founded the city of Dayton Minnesota. When Lyman died he was buried in Dayton's Bluff, but 4 years later he was moved to the Oakland Cemetery.
