Litorinameren rantakivet, Meri-Rastila
Litorinameri on viimeinen välivaihe ennen nykyistä Post-Litorinamerta eli Itämerta. Meri sai nimensä suolaisessa vedessä viihtyvän Litorina-kotilon mukaan.
Kätköpaikka on komea nähtävyys, jolla on luonnonsuojelu-, opetus- ja tieteellistä arvoa. Paikalle on helppo kulkea, sillä sen läpi kulkee kevyenliikenteen väylä. Pyöristyneet kivet ovat kooltaan 20-80 cm, niitä isommat lohkareet ovat kulmikkaita. Tihein kivikko on 30 x 60 metrin kokoinen, laajemmalla 400 metrin alueella kivet ovat pienempiä. Löytääksesi tämän kätkön suorita seuraavat tehtävät:
- Paikalle vievä ulkoilutie alkaa koordinaateista N60°12.282' E025°06.960'.
- Ei pakollista, mutta arvostaisin silti: ota kuva itsestäsi ja Litorinameren rannasta. Geologiset yksityiskohdat ovat tervetulleita muissa kuvissa. Älä kuitenkaan hypi kivikossa.
- Rantakivikon ikä on seitsemän kilovuotta. Jos paikan korkeus on nykyisin 30 metriä merenpinnasta, montako metriä vuosisataa kohden maa on keskimäärin noussut? Lähetä vastauksesi profiililinkin kautta kätkön piilottajalle.
- Merkitse kätkö löydetyksi (vapaaehtoinen osuus: ja liitä ottamasi valokuvat maisemakätkön löytölokiisi).

The Shingles of the Littorina Sea, Meri-Rastila
Littorina sea is the last phase of the Baltic sea before its current Post-littorina form. The name of the sea is taken from the barnacle littorina, which throwes in the salted water.
The hiding place is an extravagant attraction that has environmental protection, teaching and scientific value. It's easy to approach since an outdoor recreation route passes thru it. The rounded rocks are 7-32 inch in size. The bigger ones are more angular. This rapid formation has an area of 100 x 200 feets, but there's a greater zone nearby as well which has a quarter mile of smaller similar rocks. To qualify this cache as found you'll need to complete the following:
- The recreational route starts at N60°12.282' E025°06.960' which is heavily recommended.
- Not required: Take a photo of yourself and the Littorina sea shoreline. Also any geological details are welcome in the other photographs. Whatever you do, please don't trample on the rocks.
- The age of this coastal feature isi seven kiloyears. If the place is 100 feets above the sea level, then how many feets is the average post-glacial rebound per century? Send your answer thru the profile mail link to the cache hider.

Litorinameren synty
Maannousu kallisti Ancylusjärveä etelään, jolloin Tanskan salmien kohdalle syntyi hyvin leveä uoma. Tästä syystä meri oli historiaansa nähden suolaisimmillaan, jopa 2 %. Asteittaista siirtymävaihetta Ancylusjärvestä Litorinamereksi kutsutaan Mastogloiameren ajaksi, joka kesti 300-1000 vuotta. Ilmasto oli alussa vallinneen Atlanttisen lämpökauden vuoksi kosteampi ja 0,5-2°C nykyistä lämpimämpi, josta syystä Suomessa kasvoi runsaasti lehtometsiä.
The birth of the Littorina Sea
The post-glacial rebound tilted the Ancylus lake to the south, so that a deep and wide path arose to the Atlantic near the current inlets of Denmark. For this reason the sea had a very significant amount of salt in it, even as high as 2 %. The piecemeal changes from Ancylus lake to the Littorina sea is called as a time of Mastogloia Sea, which is seen to last for 300-1000 years. The climate was both more humid and warmer too compared to the current levels. About 0.9-3.6°F more than today. That ment that Finland had a lot of broad-leaved forests back then, while nowadays we only have 1 % of them.
