Mikkelin keskustan tuntumassa Ryssänkirkonmäellä, entisen ortodoksisen kirkon alueella.
Almost in the centre of Mikkeli, on a hill where there used to be orthodox church.
Ryssänkirkonmäellä Mikkelin keskustan tuntumassa on muistokivi entisen ortodoksisen kirkon paikalla. Venäläiset sotilaat rakensivat vuonna 1906 Pyhälle Suurmarttyyri Gregorios Voittajalle pyhitetyn kirkon kasarmialueen viereen. He eivät kuuluneet siviilien kanssa samaan seurakuntaan. Sodan aikana kirkon kullatut sipulit poistettiin, koska pelättiin niiden olevan maamerkkinä vihollisen lentäjille. Jäljelle jääneet aukot peitettiin huonosti ja kirkko alkoi kastua. Sotien jälkeen kirkko oli liian iso paikalliselle ortodoksiselle seurakunnalle eikä se myöskään kelvannut luterilaisille ja rapistuminen jatkui. Kirkko purettiin 1958 ja sen kivijalan osia on useissa mikkeliläisissä taloissa. Alueella on myös sodanaikaisia linnoitteita, tosin huonossa kunnossa.

Former site of orthodox church of Mikkeli, ryssänkirkonmäki. There is a memorial stone on the site. The russians built the church 1906. The parish was only for russian soldiers, the locals belonged to another parish. During the war the domes of the church were removed, as been afraid that they would be landmarks for enemy airplanes. The roof was poorly fixed, so it rained into the church. After the war the church was too big for local orthodox population. The church was finally demolished 1958. On the site there are also some trenches from the wartime.
