Geocache Description:

A viewpoint overlooking Fowey docks.

This offset cache involves a visit to the little hamlet of Mixtow. Set on a small creek on the eastern shore of the river it looks out at Fowey`s china clay loading docks. It`s not an attractive view but there is always something interesting going on with around 300 ships being loaded each year. Only four of the original eight jetties are still in use, number 4 lies down stream to the left, 5 & 6 are directly ahead. To the right is number 8 dock, this is the largest in the harbour & can handle ships up to 15,000 tons. China clay is brought to the docks by rail via Lostwithiel (upstream to the right) & by a private road from Par docks, 3 miles to the west. Both the rail wagons & the trucks carry 30 tons of clay each. Most is loaded directly onto ships but some is stored in large building opposite. This allows material to be moved even when there are no vessels in dock.
Walk 200m uphill from the car park & cross the stile on the left. Follow the public footpath through 2 fields down to the river & along to the start coordinates. The small quay is privately owned, walkers are allowed to enter but dogs are not permitted here. At the start point look for a concrete bollard with 2 rows of letters & numbers marked on top.
The cache is at N50` 20.7AB W004` 37.6CD
A = The total number of characters.
B = The third number on the bottom row.
C = The fourth number on the bottom row.
D = The number of letters on the top line plus 2.

Now retrace your steps back along the footpath towards the cache. The container is a small screw-top plastic jar.
Parking can be a problem with this cache. The suggested location is a small public car park on the road leading up from Bodinnick ferry but this can sometimes be full. In this case you may need to park on the verge at the top of the hill & walk back bown to the stile. Take care as the road is fairly busy & with no pavement. There is a narrow lane leading down to Mixtow Pill but space is so limited at the bottom that it is hard to park without obstructing access to the slipway or houses.
