Porkkala Parenthesis - East Border Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dencku: Tämä kätkö on ollut disabled puoli vuotta. Arkivoin sen ja keksin tälle toisen paikan. Samalla muutan sen niin että etsimisessä on vähän idea eikä vain sellainen "yks purkki piilossa".

It has been disabled for some time now. I will archive it and in time come up with a better solution for the hide so that it wont be one of those "just another box" caches.

Geocache Description:

Coordinates intentionally of!

The parenthesis is the name of the period between 28th September 1944 and 26th January 1956, when the Porkkala area was leased to the Soviet Union as a naval base. This meant that the people that leaved in this area in 1944 were forced to leave. They were given nine days to pack everything that they owned and move away. The area that was to be leased was 2/3 of Kirkkonummi, the southern parts of Siuntio, entire Degerby and parts of Inkoo.
It was decided that Porkkala was to be leased for fifty years. The Finnish state paid the farmers and house owners compensation for their lost property. The state demanded repayment of the compensation when the evacuees moved back in 1956.

This is my eleventh cache in the series that I call Porkkala Parenthesis.

This cache is hidden close to what once was the border between Finland and Sovietunion. The border run in the middle of Espoonlahti. When it reached land it run on the west side of Luoma and soon after Luoma it turned westwards. At this point it became the north border of the naval base. There is only one thing left in the environment that can tell you that there once was a border here and that is small iron bars in the bedrock which the border poles was attached to.

Notice the name of the roads in the surroundings. Many of them got names that in some way got to do with the location of the former border.
