This geocache is about history of fires and firefighters in Porvoo. Total distance from first point to cache location is about 5,5 km with total of 4 waypoints. You can search the waypoints while hunting other caches in town.
Suomen toiseksi vanhimpana kaupunkina Porvoo on joutunut kohtaamaan monta tuhoa ja hävitystä: 1500-luvun alussa tanskalaiset merirosvot kävivät tuhoamassa kaupungin maan tasalle. Saman vuosisadan lopussa 25-vuotisen sodan aikana venäläiset polttivat Porvoon kahdesti ja vielä kerran Isonvihan aikana 1700-luvun alussa.
Being the second oldest town in Finland, Porvoo has been burned down many times: in 16th century Danish pirates destroyed Porvoo. During the 25-year-war in the end of 16th century Russians burned the town twice again and once more in the beginning of 18th century during Isoviha (Greater Wrath).

Yllä olevat koordinaatit vievät sinut vanhaan Porvooseen talolle (vaalea kivitalo), josta Porvoon viimeisin suuri palo sai alkunsa 11.6.1760.
Kyseisessä talossa oli katto rikki ja seuraavaksi päiväksi odotettiin katon korjaajaa. Talon emäntä ei saanut unta aamuyöllä ja päätti keittää kalakeiton valmiiksi korjaajia varten. Keiton valmiiksi saatuaan emäntä meni takaisin nukkumaan. Aamulla talonväki heräsi kuitenkin katolla riehuvaan liekkimereen, joka oli tarttunut jo naapuritalon seinäänkin. Irti päässyt tuli tuhosi 202 silloisen Porvoon 293:sta rakennuksesta.

The given coordinates takes you to a house in old Porvoo where the last big fire started in June 1760.
The lady of the house was making fish soup at night and fell asleep. In the morning the family woke up to see their roof and the neighbour's wall on fire. The fire destroyed 202 of 293 buildings in Porvoo at that time.
At this location you can find a small plastic block with values for X and Y.

Vanha Porvoo on ollut vaarassa palaa myös meidän aikanamme. Porvoon tuomiokirkon palo toukokuussa 2006 lennätti palavia kekäleitä ympäri vanhaa kaupunkia. Pelastuslaitos, vapaapalokunnat sekä paikalliset asukkaat saivat kuitenkin pelastettua Porvoon uudelta tuholta. Edellisen kerran vuonna 2004 Remu Aaltosen Linnan palo vanhassa kaupungissa aiheutti vaaraa lähitaloille.
The old town of Porvoo has been in danger recently too. Porvoo Cathedral's fire in May 2006 spread firebrands over old town and destroyed the cathedral's roof and interior. In 2004 Remu Aaltonen's (popular Finnish musician, drummer of Hurriganes) house in old town burned and endangered nearby buildings.
