Merituuli Traditional Cache

Kätkö sijaitsee Särkiniemen puistossa historiallisessa ympäristössä. Lähistöltä löytyy Krimin sodan (1853-1856) aikaisia linnoituslaitteiden jäänteitä. Sodan päänäyttämöt sijaitsivat muualla, mutta Itämeren alueetkaan eivät olleet turvassa.

Englantilais-ranskalainen laivasto purjehti itämerelle keväällä 1854 tuhotakseen Suomen rannikkolinnoitukset ja -kaupungit. Ahvenanmaalla käytiin useimmille ainakin tunnetusta laulusta tuttu "Oolannin sota". Venäläiset pelkäsivät vihollisen hyökkäävän Helsingin edustalle Viaporiin. Hyökkäyksen pelossa mm. Lauttasaareen rakennettiin linnoituksia, jotka valmistuivat kesällä 1855.

Loppukesällä 1855 englantilais-ranskalainen laivasto noin 80 laivan voimin saapui Helsingin edustalle ja avasi tulen kohti Viaporia. Joitakin laivoja suuntasi Lauttasaaren lounaispuolelle ja tulitti saarta. Maihinnousuyritykset epäonnistuivat ankaran vastarinnan vuoksi. Tässä yhteydessä sai surmansa eräs sotilas, joka haudattiin saaren pohjoisosaan. Hautaan voit tutustua kätköllä GCK4T2 The unknown soldier of Lauttasaari.

The cache is located in a park in a historical environment, where there are remains of fortifications built during the The Crimean War (1853-1856). Most of the conflict took place elsewhere but some action also occurred in the Baltic Sea region.

The Anglo-French navy forces sailed to the Baltic in the spring of 1854 for the purpose of destroying the sea fortresses and coastal towns on the Finnish coast. There were several battles in the Åland Islands, most Finns knows those actions at least from a well-known folk song “Oolannin sota” (“The War of Ålands”). The Russians feared an enemy offensive on the sea fortress Viapori just off Helsinki and started building new fortifications on Lauttasaari. The works were completed in the summer of 1855.

In the end of summer of 1855 about 80 ships of The Anglo-French navy forces came to the coast of Helsinki and opened fire towards Viapori. Some of the ships sailed southwest from Lauttasaari and fired at the island. The landing attempts on the island failed due to severe resistance. One finnish soldier was killed during the battles and was buried in northern Lauttasaari. Near his grave you can find a cache called “GCK4T2 The unknown soldier of Lauttasaari”.
