Geocache Description:

The Linton Long Walk is for the die-hard hikers out there. A series of 9 caches on a 7 mile walk which explores part of the Weald, looking down to it for some of the time from the brow of the Quarry Hills.

The route is wonderful at blossom time when the orchards of the western section become a pink fairyland.

The eastern section passes through the parkland of Linton and Boughton Monchelsea, where the great house is set in a deer park.

The walk passes very close to Church Micros Nos 803 and 804 Linton Church and Boughton Monchelsea Church.

It is suggested that at least 4 hours are set aside to complete the whole walk. This leg could be completed in less than 1/2 hour if undertaken by itself.

The circular trail is mostly along footpaths and quiet country lanes, some of which cross the busy A229 or pass rivers and lakes, so keep an eye on your dogs and children. In summer long sleeved shirts and long trousers are recommended as brambles and nettles in places might be quite high.

Many of the paths can be quite muddy even in the summer so good boots are recommended.

Explorer maps 136 and 148 will help with navigation, however additional waypoints are provided below to help guide you along the route.

You are looking for a 35mm film canister containing pencil and log book. The pencil is (necessarily) very short, so it's best to take your own writing implement. Make a note of the additional clue in the logbook which will guide you to the Bonus Cache. Good luck

Parking is recommended at the village car park at Linton Church. On 364 days of the year it is possible to walk directly into the churchyard from the car park, but on the first Monday in February the gate is locked to prevent the path from becoming a right of way.

Start this leg at Waypoint E. Turn right and then take Wheelers Lane on the left; when the lane divides bear left into Barnes Lane and continue along it to the second junction where it becomes Westerhill Road.

Waypoint F. Turn left here into Bonflower Lane and immediately look for a stile on the right on to a fenced path along the edge of field containing an agricultural reservoir. At the end of the reservoir bear right to walk with the hedge on that side and an orchard to the left.

Cross a ditch and then walk along the field edge to another orchard where the path turns sharply left to follow its edge. Bear right at the corner of the orchard, still following the field edge. The next sharp turn is to the left and then the path descends the west side of the field to a bridge in its corner.

Cross the bridge and the field beyond it, heading just to the left of a pylon on the skyline. The path reaches the corner of the hedge around Burford Farm. Keep the hedge to the left and continue to a stile on to the road. This is Waypoint G.

Turn right and follow the road for ¼ mile (400m) to a road junction. Finish this leg at Waypoint H.
