Kempeleenlahti - lintukosteikko kaupungin kupeessa
Tuskin missään pääsee yhtä helposti Perämeren parhaiden linturantojen äärelle kuin Kempeleenlahden luonnonsuojelualueella. Kempeleenlahti on valtakunnallisesti arvokas lintuvesialue. Vesilintuja pesii täällä toistakymmentä lajia ja noin sata paria, kahlaajia yhtä monta lajia ja noin viisikymmentä paria. Näiden lisäksi pesivään linnustoon kuuluu lokkeja, tiiroja ja suohaukkoja, ja ruovikossa laulavat lukemattomat pajusirkut ja ruokokerttuset. Kempeleenlahdella pesii myös harvinainen itäinen kultasirkku, jota lintuharrastajat ulkomaita myöten käyvät täällä katsomassa.
Kempeleenlahden eteläinen (Myllyojan) lintutorni sijaitsee merenlahden maankohoamisrannalla Myllojan suun eteläpuolella Kempeleenlahden luonnonsuojelualueella. Linturetkeilijän kausi alkaa täällä huhtikuun lopulla kun Myllyojan suuhun aukeava sula houkuttelee vesilintuja, lokkeja ja kahlaajia. Sydänkesä on suhteellisen hiljaista aikaa, mutta syksyllä lintuja riittää lokakuulle saakka runsaasti. Kasvillisuus on kukkeimmillaan heinä-elokuussa. Alue on mukana valtakunnallisessa lintuvesien suojeluohjelmassa.
Luonnonsuojelualueeseen voi tutustua kätevästi noin 600 metrin mittaiselta pitkospuilla päällystetyltä luontopolulta ja sen puolivälissä sijaitsevasta lintutornista.
Ajo-ohje: Oulusta Oulunsaloon vievältä tieltä kääntyy Myllyojan sillan jälkeen oikealle opastettu tie lintutornin pysäköintipaikalle (N 64° 56.942 E 025° 28.777). Tie on vain noin 100 metrin mittainen, mutta ajoittain huonossa kunnossa.

Kempeleenlahti - nature reserve close to a town
It is quite rare that one can so easily reach an area to observe such a rich variety of birds close to a town as here. Kempeleenlahti is a nationally valuable bird wetland. The water birds and shorebirds breed here in a dozens of species. The estimates say the number of breeding water bird pairs be about one hundred and of breeding shorebirds about fifty pairs. In addition to these gulls, terns and herriers find ideal nesting places on the low land.
The Southern Kempeleenlahti (Myllyoja) bird-watching tower is located in the Gulf of Bothnia between the city of Oulu and the municipality of Oulunsalo in the bay exposed from the sea since the last Ice Age. It is a broad bay with meadows on its shores and a shallow seabed.
A bird-watching season begins here in late April when the ice melts in Myllyoja creek and attracts water birds, gulls and shorebirds. The mid-summer is a relatively quiet time but in autumn there are lots of birds until October. The vegetation blooms in July and August. The region is involved in a national bird conservation program.
The nature conservation area leads a visitor to the bird-watching tower along a 600 meters long wooden paved path. The tower is located in the middle of the circular path.
Directions: From the Oulu-Oulunsalo road turn right to "Lintutorni" parking (N 64 ° 56.942 E 025 ° 28.777). The road is only about 100 meters long but often in bad condition.
