Pirates of the Arctic present our first cultural cache: MADONNA
Orthodox Tsasouna (chapel)
By the river of Lieksa, and in the semetery of the Lieksa Church; you find a small wooden building. The Orthodox Tsasouna is probably the oldest in Finland; from 1769. Renovated and placed at the spot in 1984-85.
The church of Lieksa (by C.L. Engel, in 1836) burned down in 1979, and only the old tower is left today.
Architects Raili and Reima Pietilä designed the new church. Built in 1982. Which is, in my opinion, the most beautiful modern church in Finland.
As you can see the main entrance is not from the parking place, but from the riverside. In older days people coming to church, came by boat from the river. As you walk down the aisle, you see the old tower behind the altarwindow.
The cache got a new hidingplace, as the highwaters washed the cache downstream...
Pleace see that the cache remain its hidingplace, and be careful with the sight...
