Grain Brook Boulder is a geocache that is situated in the valley that Grain Brrok runs down. It is a clip lock container.
Grain Brook rises on the Rossendale Fells, and eventually flows into Cheesden Brook. Running along the top of the small valley is the Coal Road, which used to be the access track to the colliery on Scout Moor.
Grain Brook is a place of interest and surprises, many of which cannot be seen from the Coal Road. There are a number of waterfalls, and in one spot can be seen the ripples from a fossilised seabed.
To get down to the cache site you need to watch your footing and take care. In places there are hidden drops, and the valley sides are steep. I would recommend starting to contour down to the cache at the waypoint.
If you are adventerous you could have an interesting trip up the Brook to the geocache -Grain Brook Waterfall, though please be aware that this is rough underfoot, and steep in places. I wouldn't recommend taking the route along the brook downstream from Grain Brook Waterfall, you would be best to go back up to the Coal Road, and then desecnding from the waypoint.
Alternatively, you could return to the waypoint on the Coal Road from this cache, and make your way up the valley along the track.
You have to cross the stream to get to the cache - so please watch your footing, and depending on the water level - you might get wet feet.
Overall, please enjoy yourself, but please assess the risk for yourself when you are there.
