* Elias Lönnrot (1802-1884) vieraili usein pappilassa runonkeruuja
lääkärimatkoillaan ollessaan Kajaanin kihlakunnan piirilääkärina
vuosina 1833-1853.
* Kari Saksa Nuorempi (1796-1849) oli seurakunnan toinen
kappalainen, Lönnrotin ystävä ja suomen kielen kehittäjä
(Mehiläinen ja Oulun Wiikko-Sanomat).
* Isa Asp (1853-1872) Suomussalmella asuessaan oli usein Liliuksen
perheen vieraana. Hän kävi rippikoulun Suomussalmella E. Snellmanin
ollessa kirkkoherrana (1970-1875).
* K. J. Ståhlberg (1865-1952) syntyi pappilassa apulaispapin
poikana. August Benjamin Calamnius (1834-1915) oli pitkäaikaisin
kirkkoherra Suomussalmella.
* Ilmari Kianto (1874-1970) kasvoi Calamniuksen perheen nuorimpana
poikana ja kuvasi pappilaa mm. Vanha Pappila -kirjassaan.
* Toivo Janhonen (1886-1939) oli Suomussalmen pitkäaikainen
kirkkoherra, kansanedustaja (1924-1939) ja ministeri (1938-1939)
Karhulanvaara (the Beary Hill) is cultural historically
significant area that has during the latest decades gotten
acquainted as a place of education. The educational activities at

(the Old Rectory).
* Toivo Janhonen (1886-1939) was a long-standing rector at
Suomussalmi, a congressman (1924-1939) and a minister
(1938-1939).
