When I set out to create the
"Beavecoon" geocache, I scouted out a brilliant location for the
final cache. I spotted two huge oak trees down in the woods. The
first one was beautiful, but without a good location for a large
cache container. The second tree was even larger, with the perfect
hollow for an ammo box.
With the information I needed, I went
home and created all the parts for the puzzle cache, printed up the
clues, and prepared the cache containers. A few weeks later I went
back the park and placed all the clue caches, then headed out to
place the final. As I walked back in the woods, I could tell
something was different. There was just too much
sunlight....
In the few weeks that I had waited, my
fabulous oak tree had crashed to the ground. The shady forest glade
was transformed into a sun-drenched field of multiflora rose. In
short, it was a wreck!
After a week of soul searching, I
decided to reloated the final for Beavecoon. But this original
location made such a great story....SO:
This is a short multi-stage cache. Stage 1 is located at the
base of a great old live oak tree on the south side of Cross Creek
Lake county park. You are searching for a tube about 1-inch by
6-inches, camo-taped and hidden on the oak tree. This will give you
the coordinates for stage two (the final).
Stage 2 is a 50-cal ammo box in the stump of a once mighty oak
tree. If you have problems with stage 1, you can probably just
branch out and find stage two based on the description.
LOCATION NOTES: The cache is located on the south side of Cross
Creek County Park. This area attracts a LOT of hunters. Please be
aware of the hunting seasons, and during the season, be sure to
wear plenty of fluorescent orange (or better yet, wait until
Sunday!) PA Hunting Season link. You can follow the main
road/trail from the parking lot down very close to stage 1 -- check
the additional waypoint for a rough path leading into the
woods.
