Vieressä oleva Puolen hehtaarin metsä on itse asiassa pinta-alaltaan puolta hehtaaria selvästi suurempi. Metsäkuvion pinta-ala on 0,78 hehtaaria. Metsäkuvio on rauhoitettu kymmenen vuoden määräajaksi. Rauhoitusaika päättyy 31.12.2020. Kun metsäalueelle myönnetään rauhoitus, metsänomistaja sitoutuu olemaan tekemättä alueella metsätalouden toimenpiteitä. Puita ei siis saa alueelta kaataa. Myös itsestään kaatuvat puut pitää jättää maahan niille sijoilleen mihin puu kaatuu. Pystyyn kuolevat ja maahan lahoavat puut ovat rauhoitettujen alueiden parasta antia metsäluonnon monimuotoisuuden kannalta. Puut tarjoavat elintilaa koloissa pesiville linnuille sekä monenlaisille pieneliöille, kasveille ja sienille.
Puolen hehtaarin metsän läheltä löytyy myös muuta mukavaa ja virkistävää, vaikkapa lepotauon viettoon ennen tai jälkeen kätkön löytymiseen.
Five Hundred Acre Wood

Cachers and hikers are always brave and cheery like Christopher Robin, aren’t they? Indeed, you can bump into hikers and wanderers close to this cache.
The five hundred acre wood is in reality much larger than just five hundred acres. The surface area of the wood is 0.78 hectares. The forest is protected for a ten year period. The protection period ends 31.12.2020. When a wood is protected, the land owner commits to not make any forestry actions. No trees can be felled, and also trees that collapse by themselves have to be left as they are on the ground. Trees that die upright and trees rotting on the ground are the best offerings of protected woodlands for the diversity of nature. These trees offer living space for birds nesting in hollows and all kinds of micro-organisms, plants and mushrooms.
There are other pleasant and refreshing things close to the five hundred acre wood, such as a place for resting before or after finding the cache.
