Hole in the Wood Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

johnnyruck: The cache has not been found for for over six months and I am unable to visit the site to replace it. It has been a very popular cache, being a favorite with many cachers. If any one wishes to resurrect it I shall be delighted.

Geocache Description:

The cache is in a deep hollow in Great Church Wood.  It is close to a footpath and about half a mile from the car park near the top of Gangers Hill.

Great Church Wood is riddled with deep steep-sided hollows. Local rumour has it that these are bomb craters from the 2nd World War, but this seems unlikely since the map of bombs which fell during the Blitz does not show any in this location. It is more likely that they were formerly chalk quarries.

The cache is placed with the kind permission of the Woodland Trust

Hole in the Wood

The cache is a lock&lock container with:

  • 1 Turkish lira
  • Mirror
  • Pen key ring
  • Bracelet
  • Diamond pin
  • Picture frame
In wet conditions it could be difficult to access the cache. A rope would come in handy.
