Geocache Description:

This is a Church Micro multi with a twist - when perusing the Church Micro web site it appears there are no Church Micro caches with a terrain rating of greater than 4.  Well now there is because the final is a tree climb and 20 feet up a tree.

As with all geocaches, you make your own choices on how to retrieve a cache and it is entirely at your own risk to do so. If you have any doubts then walk away.

The Church

It might not seem it but the church is actually quite modern.  The present church, dedicated to St David, the Patron Saint of Wales, was built in 1907 to replace a corrugated iron church which was built in 1878.

Funds for the building of the church were raised by public donations and events, notably the Grand Fete at Miskin Manor which raised over £1,000.  The church was licensed on 23rd December 1907 and later consecrated by the Right Rev Timothy Rees, Bishop of Llandaff, on Sunday 23rd April 1933.

One of the main features of the church is the beautiful stained-glass window dedicated to the Rhys-Williams family. Jessie Bayes, a friend of William Morris, and following in the Pre-Raphaelite tradition, designed the three most recent windows.

In 2007 St David’s celebrated its centenary with various successful events, including an Open Day, Sponsored Hymn-Singing, a photographic competition and a Carol Service.

The Cache

At the listed coordinates you will find a notice board on which you will find the telephone number of the Llan Ministry Area Administrator.  Assume ABCDE FGHJKL

The cache can be found at the following location

N51° EB.(D/C)(E+G)H, W003° F(L/C).KHF

Entry to the trees can be found at Northings - 008 and Westings - 015.

The cache is a modified micro so please bring your own pen.  To claim it you must sign the log and not just see the cache container.

The Safety Bit

So here's the safety bit - just because I have placed the cache in a tree does not mean that the tree is safe to climb, only that I was happy to climb it when I placed the cache. If you arrive at GZ and you think it is not in your capabilities to get up and down, or you do not have the correct equipment (and/or not know how to use it!) then walk away the decisions to climb (and therefore the consequences) are entirely your responsibility and at your own risk. Please also remember that branches can break or get weakened over time, rain or wet branches will make things slippery and winds will all increase the difficulty/danger.

Having said all of that I had great fun setting this cache up so I don't want to put you off at all - but you alone take responsibility for your own actions as I cannot take responsibility for them.

HAVE FUN - I CAN RECOMMEND THE PUB NEAR THE CHURCH IF YOU NEED A DRINK TO CALM THE NERVES AFTERWARDS.

*** Congratulations to new-dawn and Olddandare on the FTF ***
