Geocache Description:

Visit the locations in which old photos of Worthing seafront and town centre were taken.

Covid-19 Information:

Worthing Pier is currently operating a one-way system. I've been informed that it's still possible to complete the Wherigo; I have also produced an alternate version of the cartridge that avoids the 2 stages on the pier but is otherwise the same.

If using the Covid version, the cache instead starts at N 50° 48.617 W 000° 22.200 (South Street).

Welcome to the Worthing Then & Now Tour! I've always been interested in old photos of the locations I know well, and Worthing has an abundance of them! This tour will take you to the original locations where the photos were taken, and you'll be able to compare them with what the places are like today.

In this Wherigo, I will take you on a tour of the original locations in which these photos were taken, and we'll see what the places are like today. The tour starts at Worthing Pier, and continues for about 1.2 miles, after which you'll find the final micro-sized cache.

Due to its first two stages being on the pier, you can only start this cache between the hours of 09:00 and 17:00.

If you haven't found a Wherigo cache before, you'll need to find some way of playing. This cartridge can be played on Wherigo-supported devices and apps. For more help, see here.If playing on a mobile device, download the version for 'Pocket PC' on the Wherigo website.

The final location in the Wherigo is the cache, though due to the limitations of the platform I can't take you to the exact location. Instead, you'll go to a rough zone where the cache is located, accompanied by a fairly clear hint. You'll also get a set of coordinates for the cache, in case you'd rather use your normal Geocache finding app or GPS receiver.

The information and questions in each location are trigged by arriving nearby. If you exit back to the Wherigo home screen, but haven't answered the question yet, leave the location and then go back again.

Credit for most photos goes to www.westsussexpast.co.uk/pictures, a great website (go to their search page and look up your local area for all sorts of images from the last 250 years).

Many thanks to Yourself (not you, the Geocaching user Yourself) for creating Urwigo, the Wherigo builder!
