Geocache Description:

This is the second of our series in honour of a devoted mum / wife who absolutely loved taking her family geocaching. She preferred beautiful rural areas and this is such a place. It is near to a number of rest and viewpoints over a valley carved out in the last ice age and lies near to stunning rows of Wellingtonia trees. This cache is a bit more of a physical challenge due to the need to navigate a forest set on a slope.

The Finchampstead ridges is a beautiful region in Berkshire that owes its geography and geology to the last ice age where glaciers carved out the valley that lies before those that visit. Swathes of colourful heathers decorate the clearings of the forest that grows on the slopes of the valley. There are a number of benches set at views of significant beauty throughout which make for good picnic areas on a spring or summers day. This cache was set during a summer thunderstorm and even this did not fully disrupt the effect of the nature around us. The ridges also boasts fine specimens of giant Wellingtonia trees and at lower levels numerous fine marsh dwelling plants. The ridges are frequented by dog walkers and scouts alike. We are certain that others can be drawn to it as we have been.
