The Olympic modern pentathlon competitions were held in the
Ahvenisto area of Hämeenlinna, 100 km north of Helsinki. The cache
is located in that area. Please notice, it is not in forbidden
area! Olympiakisojen nykyaikaisen 5-ottelun kilpailut järjestettiin
Hämeenlinnassa Ahveniston maastossa. Kätkö sijaitsee kyseisellä
kilpailupaikalla. Huom! Kätkö ei ole kielletyllä alueella.
The Games of the XV Olympiad were celebrated in Helsinki from 19
July to 3 August 1952. Helsinki had
expected to host the 1940 Olympic Games, but those Games had to be
cancelled because of World
War II.
The Helsinki Olympic Games of 1952 are sometimes remembered as "the
last real Olympic Games", due
to their sportsmanlike, non-commercial spirit. The Helsinki Games
have also been described as "the
whole people's Games". Thousands of volunteers took part in the
organisational tasks.
The political setting of the Helsinki Games was not very
promising. The Cold War was continuing and
the Korean War still simmering. Still, the turnout was better than
ever before: invitations were sent to
80 countries and 70 were represented in Helsinki. The Soviet Union
participated in the Olympic Games
for the first time, and Germany and Japan, excluded from London
1948, were welcomed back to
Olympic family.

XV olympiadin kisat järjestettiin Helsingissä 19.7. -3.8.1952.
Helsingin oli ollut määrä isännöidä
olympiakisoja jo vuonna 1940, mutta tuolloin kisat jouduttiin
peruuttamaan sodan vuoksi.
Helsingin olympiakisoja muistellaan usein "viimeisinä oikeina
olympiakisoina". Ne olivat urheilulliset
ja ei-kaupalliset kisat. Kisoista on käytetty nimitystä "Koko
kansan kisat". Järjestelytehtäviin osallistui
tuhansia vapaaehtoisia.
Helsingin olympiakisat järjestettiin poliittisesti epävarmana
aikana. Kylmä sota jatkui ja Korean sotaa
käytiin parhaillaan. Helsingin kisoihin osallistui kuitenkin
enemmän kansakuntia kuin mihinkään
aikaisempiin kisoihin: kutsuja lähetettiin 80 maahan ja niistä 70
vastasi kutsuun myöntävästi.
Neuvostoliitto osallistui olympiakisoihin ensimmäistä kertaa, ja
Lontoon olympiakisoista 1948 pois suljetut
Saksa ja Japani palasivat takaisin olympianäyttämölle.
