Geocache Description:

Blakes Wood is very peaceful, normally with very few visitors. It is well known for its mass of beautiful bluebells in the spring and is ideal for a tranquil walk.

A small car park is located at N51 43.745 E0 34.148 and the cache is very roughly 400 metres from there. Thanks to "the Land Rovers" for pointing out that there is a height restriction on entry to the car park that means no mpv/4 wheel drives can get in, but have to park out on the rather narrow road.

The fairly dense tree cover in summer may present a bit of a challenge (my GPS was telling me that it needed a clear view of the sky most of the time!), although I suspect this might improve in winter. Consequently I placed the cache by a slight clearing where I got a reading but only accuracy down to about 11 metres and quite a variety of co-ordinates from which to take an average - hope you are not too far off!). The cache is close to a narrow trail and can be accessed without disturbing the vegetation.

The wood is owned and managed by the National Trust and consists of 108 acres of woodland. There are hornbeam, sweet chestnut and oak trees. In certain areas trees uprooted in the 1987 storms have been left lying where they fell.

Contents of cache:
log book, pen & pencil
spare re-closable bags (to be left please)

initial trades:
super ball
batteries for GPS
lobster eraser
fridge magnet
pack of playing cards
cube key-ring

Enjoy the walk and the serenity!
